As a leader in technology services and digital transformation, Mindtree’s website must not only serve the function of a sales tool, but also act as a testament to the brand and its mission. In April 2017 Mindtree approached Bluetext with the goal of reimagining, redesigning, and replatforming its self-hosted Drupal 7 website, with 10 unique page templates, 1800-plus pages, and 700-plus blogs in under six months. Together, Mindtree and Bluetext hit the ground running to deliver a scalable digital platform worthy of the brand it houses.
The previous iteration of Mindtree.com posed challenges from both a brand perspective and a content management perspective. It failed to effectively communicate Mindtree’s position as a leader in its space. Mindtree’s brand is built on the idea that the company is “born digital,” but its own digital platform lacked the innovation and sophistication to support this claim.
Prospective customers who come to the Mindtree.com expect to see that the company practices what it preaches. Instead, when visitors arrived at Mindtree.com, they were presented with a dated user experience and unintuitive navigation system. A poor mobile experience frustrated and alienated users, resulting in a high bounce rate. Content was disorganized, segmented, and difficult to find.
Internally, Mindtree’s marketing team faced a number of challenges with its content management system. Even simple text changes required involvement from their development team. Much of the content on the site was manually curated and thus often out-of-date given that the site had thousands of pages. The team needed a friendly UI, an established workflow, and strategically engineered dynamic content zones to keep the site fresh.
An extensive, strict project plan and timeline kept the teams on track and forward-thinking through detailed discovery, design, and development processes. Through great collaboration, the Mindtree and Bluetext teams were able to stay on schedule and deliver within the aggressive timeline.
The Acquia Platform provides tremendous value for operationalizing the development workflow to gain efficiencies on its own. When paired with Acquia’s Build and Launch Tool and Acquia Lightning it takes the time savings to a whole new level. Acquia Lightning provides a starter kit that is geared towards content editing and workflow.
Acquia BLT is a set of tools and scripts that support in streamlining the development workflow on the Acquia Platform. The tool provides everything from scripts to setup a fresh drupal install to integrating your CI tools and running visual regression testing. The most useful functionality of the Acquia BLT toolset is the automated deployment scripts which allows Mindtree to manage its main repository in GitHub with only the custom config/code that is being developed. Keeping core and contrib out of its repository and managed in composer helps speed up the day-to-day tasks, such as code reviews and merges. It also ensures that best practices are followed by forcing core and contributed modules to be patched vs. hacked.
Acquia Lightning saved Mindtree’s team days in the initial site setup vs. a base Drupal 8 site by providing a recipe for success and saved days if not weeks during the development phase by having issues patched up front. This is probably the most beneficial offering that Lightning provides. With a community of hundreds, if not thousands of people in the community supporting the distribution, the number of eyes and edge cases that are tested and accounted for are tremendous. These tools streamline the day-to-day tasks and save both time and money when combined with the Acquia Platform.
Strong content strategy and a mobile-first design approach empowered Bluetext to deliver a modern yet accessible website for end-users and an effective, scalable CMS for the Mindtree marketing team.
The project resulted in a truly transformed web experience. The Mindtree website provides its customers a visually appealing experience to learn about what Mindtree does and how Mindtree can help their organizations. The new digital platform also provides a wealth of knowledge sharing in the form of thought leadership, for individuals who are looking to learn and grow. The designs made thoughtful use of Mindtree’s unique brand and color palette, balancing the brand’s bold and bright tone with whitespace.
A new left navigation system set Mindtree apart from its competitors, and a unique, cutting-edge digital experience on the About page backed up Mindtree’s much touted “born digital” tagline.
Not only was the core project, from discovery and design to launch, completed in just over six months, but the new digital platform was also configured to offer personalized content via Acquia Lift to help provide a more conversational interaction between the Mindtree website and its visitors. Mindtree is blazing a trail in the B2B space by providing users what they want when they want it.
