The Client
Pegasystems’ adaptive, cloud-architected software empowers people to rapidly deploy, and easily extend applications to meet strategic business needs. For more than 30 years, Pega has delivered award-winning capabilities in CRM and digital process automation, powered by advanced artificial intelligence and robotic automation, to help the world’s leading brands achieve breakthrough business results.
The Situation
To accelerate attendance at PegaWorld, the world's largest intelligent automation event, the marketing department needed an ambitious website to achieve their short-term goals and open endless possibilities for the future.
Pega partnered with Mediacurrent to architect a Drupal 8 platform that’s made to be measured, optimized, and evolved—the ultimate agile marketing tool.
The Challenges
Layers of architecture build-up on Pega’s Drupal 7 site and an elaborate implementation of beans to display content created challenges when it came to translations and internationalization. Content sprawl needed to be managed, and the project would need to account for several proprietary integrations with back-end systems.
The Solution
Acquia enabled Pega to take an iterative approach to replatforming its company website on Drupal 8. By running the former Drupal 7 and new Drupal 8 sites in parallel, the Mediacurrent team was able to move site elements over in stages to allow for continuous improvement. With Acquia as a technical partner, the Pega team can take risks and experiment without getting sidetracked by DevOps issues. With Drupal 8, Pega stays nimble and relevant, driving marketing content across all of the brand’s digital properties.
To give content editors the independence to publish beautiful, functional and on-brand content, Pega.com puts editors and marketers in direct control of what goes on the page, with many variations for styling and display. Custom layouts with Paragraphs allow the marketing team to express their vision within brand guidelines and without developer support. Pega developed Bolt, a Pattern Lab, Twig, and Web Component-based design system. Bolt, integrated seamlessly with the Drupal 8 platform, empowers the Pega team to create higher quality, more consistent solutions with a faster time to market.
The site serves a global audience of customers and prospects with a pioneering internationalization strategy detects preferred browser language. When a user visits the page that detects browser language, the system will prompt with an the option to switch languages. To aid in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) a language-personalized popup message informs European Union site visitors.
Pega’s Drupal implementation gives the team great potential to innovate and implement new marketing ideas looking forward. Says Derek Gilmore, senior director of web architecture at Pegasystems, “If we can dream it, Drupal 8 can do it.”
The system we built could adapt to that and that and we were able to maintain scope having two different sites and launch the site ahead of the PegaWorld conference. The flexibility for the marketing team to create customizable campaign landing pages and Acquia’s hosting support to scale when traffic soars led to Pega’s most successful conference yet. Further improvements helped make content more readily consumable - from long blocks of content to short and snackable. Every piece of content is designed to answer a customer question in the sales journey. An enterprise taxonomy tagging system attributes sales to specific marketing activities.
The Results
Key results include driving a record number of attendees to the Pegaworld tech conference, accelerating engagement and community growth. The site also achieved better performance metrics, integrated with analytic platforms, and improved insight into user behaviors. The new marketing platform also provided auto-translation for all site content.
